“Information shapes our perception, the messages we absorb from the media, like Facebook, affect the way we navigate the world. Representation matters; if the information we receive is white-centric, heteronormative, and limited, our perspective will be steeped in ignorance. Existing as a non binary and queer person in the world is already difficult, and trump is doing everything he can to make life for all LGBTQ people harder.
Trump wants to keep our perspective limited, people with closed minds are easier to control. I will not allow him to infringe upon my rights or the rights of the people I care about. Pretending that the numbers of cases of people with COVID-19 haven’t gone up won’t actually decrease the actual amount of cases in the US. Reinforcing the false narrative that cops are good won’t actually make them good, nor will diminishing Black people actually diminish them.
2020 is already a dumpster fire of a year, and Trump is currently trying to undermine our upcoming election. In 2016, when we were sweet summer children and thought that year was the worst, Facebook and the mainstream media were helpful in derailing the outcome of the election through the spread of misinformation and sensationalized, misleading, click bait articles. I do not want to go through another four years under the Trump administration and am doing my part to prevent four more years of his racist, misogynistic, ignorant, cruel rhetoric.
As a feminist and member of the LGBTQ community, a vote for Trump is a vote against me and my best interests. A vote for trump compromises my safety and the safety of people I care about, including BIPOC, immigrants, and people who struggle with chronic illness. I’m partnering up with Defeat Disinfo to ensure that correct information is being given to the public, so you can make the right decision. I will take up space, I will not be silent.
